Apple, Facebook, Google, Twitter : What is the greatest common factor

At social-bucket we made a list of inventions of the last decade which have changed the way we live today. And naturally the four names in the title and many more made it to the list. Now that the first part was done, we  tried to figure out what was that one thing that unites all these companies.

that is exactly what all these companies do.

And they have built there success stories by connecting people with different flavors.
Google : Connects the data all over the internet and makes it easier to search. Don't forget gmail as connecting tool.
Facebook : Changed the meaning of the "Social" and how we connect with people.
Apple : Showed us the importance of UI in changing our way we communicate and connect with people.
Twitter : Instant sharing and proved that you keep it short and still convey your message.

17th and 18th centuries : It was printing press
19th and first half of 20th century : It was all about Industrialisation
Later 20th century and 21st century : It is all about IT

However even among greatest inventions of all these centuries we can see that the most popular inventions were those which tried to connect people and empowered them to share data. Looks like needs of humanity have always been the same. The last decade has only reiterated this.

Apple Inc. and its mysterious logo

Apple Inc., the leader of todays electronic goods has a very strange and interesting logo. The logo has a deep meaning in it and not just an ordinary apple with a bite. Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne set up Apple Computers in the year 1976 to sell their hand-made computer. They contacted HP to sell their product APPLE I. HP declined their product and I'm sure its repenting the decision today.

When the three founders of Apple Inc. wanted a name for their company, Jobs came up with the name Apple as he was very fond of it. Jobs worked at an apple farm as a hobby and admired the beauty of apple and considered it a perfect fruit. The idea was approved and thus APPLE COMPUTERS.

The image on the left was the first logo of Apple Computers which had Sir Issac Newton under an Apple tree where the theory of gravitation was born. This complicated logo was designed by Jobs and Wayne with an inscription “Newton … A Mind Forever Voyaging Through Strange Seas of Thought … Alone.” on the outer frame.

A year later, Jobs hired Rob Janoff, a graphic designer. Rob simplified the Apple logo into an apple with a bite. This logo of apple had a lot of speak. The logo was in action in the year 1976. It was the time the 8bit machine and the color monitor came up.
The apple logo had rainbow colors to represent the birth of color monitors and a bite
which represented the BYTE. The Apple II was one of the first few 8 bit machines and had a slogan "BYTE INTO AN APPLE" (byte = 8bits). The bite in the apple pays homage to Alan Turing, the Father of computer science who died by biting a cyanide injected apple. Jobs also wanted the bite in the Apple logo, as it would be mistaken for a cherry or a tomato without it.

When Apple launched the iMac in the year 1998, they removed the rainbow colors in it. Its was just a black apple with a bite. Today, the apple logo comes with a nice gradient chrome silver design. It is one of the most recognized brand symbols and the company is no less.

Chrome OS

Google here... Google there.... and now Google everywhere. Google has left no stone unturned it the city of INTERNET. Not only making new things happen, its scaring other companies away from competition. Google Chrome browser has found home in almost every computer, making IE and others a history (though chrome has a lot of bugs to be fixed). We all know the reason behind Nokia+Microsoft. YES!!!!! I'm talking about Android. After entering the mobile world, Google has now plans to invade the computer OS.

Chrome OS was announced on July 7, 2009. Its built on a Linux platform and more interestingly is an Open Source project. The launch of hardware featuring Chrome OS is expected in the end of 2011. Chrome OS is for people who spend a lot of time in the INTERNET.

Chrome OS boots up in just 10 seconds making it the fastest. It starts with a user login screen which is related to the Google account. The user login will allow access to all of Google's products.
User's data will be stored online using developed Cloud computing methods where user can access data from any computer running Chrome OS with a specific Username and Password. All this happening and more to come from Google, I'm sure there are a lot of companies being threatened. Watch out Gates!!!!

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Samsung has just announced two new Galaxy Tabs at their on-going event in CTIA(Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association). A Tab with a 10.1-inch screen, while the other with a 8.9-inch screen.

Samsung did announce the Galaxy Tab 10.1 at the Mobile World Congress last month, but the company has actually improved the product since then in a bid to make it an iPad killer. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is thickness is virtually the same as that of the Galaxy S II (8.6 mm), making it thinner than the recently announced iPad 2.

The 10.1 Tab has a PLS display with WXGA (1280×800) display. It is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and packs 1GB of RAM. The back of the tab features a 3MP camera with Auto-Focus and an LED flash, while there is a 2MP camera in the front for video calling.

The usual GPS with A-GPS, Bluetooth, Accelerometer, Digital Compass, Ambient Light Sensor and a 3.5mm audio jack are all present. The tablet supports HSPA+ for speeds of up to 21Mbps.

The Tab 10.1 has dual-Wi-Fi antennas and supports both 2.4GHz and the 5GHz bands. The tablet has a whopping 6800mAh battery for up to 10 hours of video playback and weighs in only 595grams.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 will run on Android 3.0 Honeycomb with Samsung’s TouchWIZ 4.0 UI on top of it. The tablet will be released on June 8 in some regions of the world. The 16GB Wi-Fi version will cost only $499 while the 32GB version will cost $599.

Is Microsoft more ethical than Google?

Well that's true, if you go by the ratings given by Ethisphere Institute.

Ehtisphere Institute has come out with a list of world's most ethical companies. And what makes it interesting is that Microsoft makes it to the list but Google and Apple don't. The company website says
The World’s Most Ethical Companies designation recognizes companies that truly go beyond making statements about doing business “ethically” and translate those words into action. WME honorees demonstrate real and sustained ethical leadership within their industries, putting into real business practice the Institute’s credo of “Good. Smart. Business. Profit.”

So does that mean Google's "Don't be Evil" is just in words or did Microsoft's Billion dollar philanthropy got the company  into the list. What do you  think?
