Chat using SMS from Gmail

Hi Folks,

Now, you can send SMS messages to your contacts’ mobile phones using Gmail Chat. To do so from Gmail:
  1. Enter your contact’s name in the ‘Search or invite friends’ box in Chat, and select Send SMS from the box of options that appears to the right of your contact’s name. Or, if you already have a Chat window open for this contact, just click Options, and select Send SMS.
  2. In the dialog box, enter a phone number in the ‘Send SMS messages to this number’ field. This feature is only launched in selected countries. If you are not located in one of these countries you can still use it, but you won't see the SMS option in Chat until you enable it manually in the Chat settings page.
  3. Click Save.
  4. A Chat window appears. Just type your message as you would normally. When you hit Enter, the message will be sent to the phone number you entered.

If your contact replies, the text message response will appear as a reply in Chat. These conversations are stored in your Chat history just like regular chats (but keep in mind that you can’t go off the record while communicating via SMS).
SMS charges: Google does not charge for using this service. However, mobile providers' standard charges will apply to any SMS messages sent from a mobile device to Google Chat.

Google Chrome : Adding new User

Hi Techies,

Imagine this. You are using various apps of google on four tabs in the chrome browser. Your friends comes along and says that he wants to check him gmail and he uses only chrome browser. Now you need to log out and close all the tabs or ask him to use a browser other than chrome(which you don't like). What if both of you could use chrome and your accounts were operating as if they were not connected?

Google Chrome's latest version now allows you to log in to multiple user accounts of a single site, using Chrome's new feature of Multiple Users.
i.e., you can log into Facebook (Gmail or any other site) simultaneously as multiple different users.

Do you share a computer with other people?

If yes then adding new users to Chrome lets you keep your stuff separate from that of your friends. If browsers are going to be our new operating systems in the current cloud era, adding user account seems the logical step and google has rightly added that to their coveted browser.

  1. Click on Wrench Menu >> Preferences (/Options)
  2. In this page, in the "Users" Section, Click the "Add new User", which creates a new user profile.
  3. Optional Step - You can sign-in to Chrome using your Gmail account to save your bookmarks.
  4. Once a new user is created, you can open a window as that user by clicking the icon visible at top-left corner (top-right corner in Linux).
  5. The new window is no way related to old window and you can open any site in these two windows as two different users.
This video explains more about how this works:

Do you like this feature? Then go ahead and enable it. Make sure that your friend can use chrome too when you have your accounts open ;)

Isn't that cool? Let us know what you feel.

Google's social Q&A

Recently Google got bashed for giving higher importance to Google+ posts in the search results. But however looks like Google is not gonna stop pushing Google+ down out throats.

When you search for a query on Google+, there is an option at the bottom of the page saying "Want to ask your friends about your search query?".

Clicking on the link "Ask on Google+" will present you this popup asking you to share your question as a post on Google+

What do you think, does Google really want to create a social question answer platform using Google+, or is it just another attempt by Google to promote Google+ ?
